Tuesday is walking night... Erin and I hit the pavement for some exercise/outings. We have gone down Chandler, which is a great urban hike/bike trail in the middle of two streets. We have also toured the Madison Heights area (when my Huntington Gardens pass did not let us in early enough). That area ended up being great for people watching and house "shopping" (aka dreaming).
This Tuesday was Texas BBQ Tuesday. Our thought- walk to dinner, have some food, walk it off on the way back (yea right, but it would be fun!).
Texas BBQ out of state is kinda like eating Mexican food below the Mason-Dixon line- not a fantastic nor wise choice. However, the BBQ sign on the gas station sign was a good sign to start off the evening. The name has a lot to live up to: The Swinging Door. The one in SoCal is The Swinging Door BBQ . The great original is in Richmond Texas- The Swinging Door.
I got the brisket - a Texas staple. I wish they had been serving it on butcher paper with some wonder bread slices, but no dice. It was on a plate. They got bonus points for having the sauce on the side and having real German potato salad (mustard based). Here is my verdict- meh... the brisket was dry, the sauce was WAY to sweet, the potatoes needed more onions. Erin, Jason, Jenn, and Ron ordered a taster plate. The tri-tip was mostly moist, but the ribs lacked substantial flavor. I would go back, but not because it is Texas BBQ, rather because it is close to Erin's and it isn't bad BBQ for SoCal. Gosh I miss Texas.
