Down the Mountain toboggan style, minus the toboggan
It was my first Sunday back home in about a month, so what did I decide to do? Go mountain biking, of course! We headed up to Winter Trail and took the fire road almost to the tower. It was a uphill push for me, but great practice and exercise (with lots of breaks). At the top of the mountain, you look over all of the Santa Anita race park and the suburban sprawl surrounding it, including the mall.

After a quick energy bar, I was ready to "earn my turns" going back down. It turns out that I don't trust my bike as much as I should, and I lost it going downhill over some really rocky terrain. I slide down under my bike, which turned out to be good for both my side and my bike! Have you seen League of Their Own? You remember the part where one girl slides into home, and leaves her with a huge hematoma? Apparently if you slide on anything rocky, you all get the same bruise. I just had multiple ones. I am glad I didn't check until later though, it would have hurt worse. It was hard to talk myself into getting up as it was, and when I did, my bike chain wouldn't catch.

Thank goodness it was eventually obvious I was not coming down the hill as expected... I got the bike to work okay, but Jay gave me his bike for the rest of the rocky ride (I had a "use the instructor's mask, it will make things better" moment.) My injuries took me out of karate for a couple weeks, and has me hesitant on rocky downhill parts, but WHAT DID I LEARN?

Get back up and try again.

Mt. Baker weekend - Day two

Jeff on his butt not on his board:

I was a little cold:

From inside the lodge, you can still see that it is snowing heavily:

Mt. Baker weekend - Day one

Does it look like Jeff's hand is bothering him here? Yes, keep that in mind for later posts...

These are pictures after Christa went down the first two hills at Mach 3. She apparently learns to ski the way she learned to walk- on big blur between the objects to hold onto (at top speed). Good luck with that Chris!

Look closely! This is confusing... it was Christa in the blue and yellow ski jacket, and now it is not!
